DEVIL MAY CRY 3 - GAME REVIEW

Devil May Care? (A look at DmC from a Devil May Cry fan)Don't fail me now!SSS! During TGS 2010, this no longer meant “SUPER SMOKING STYLISH!” to many fans of the beloved Devil May Cry series.Myself included. However, a lot of time has passed since then, and I was able to collect my thoughts and truly think about this reboot of a franchise long engrained in many gamers.Let’s start with what angered all the fans. First, we got the words “Reboot” thrown around along with “prequel” leading to all sorts of confusion. After all, we had our prequel, the brilliant ‘Devil May Cry 3′ which many consider to be the pinnacle of the series (myself included). The trailer showed us a supposedly “younger” Dante, but to many of us, that’s not what we would call Dante at all! No!
There was no real similarities to our old hero, other than the fact that they both have guns and a sword (the weapons are different too!). This “new” Dante, sported black hair  with a strange haircut that looks a lot like Tameem Antoniades‘ from Ninja Theory themselves! Along with a methhead figure, deep v neck, weird coat sporting a “union jack”, and he actually smokes! (the original Dante had no need for smokes and was content with Pizza and strawberry sundaes, that last bit was learnt from the anime, yup big fan here) Many fans consider this new “Dante” some sort of emo creation designed to appeal to the female masses that adore and worship the ‘Twilight’ films. The new Dante seems too serious, not showing any real emotion other than some screams of agony from being captive. The last time we had a serious Dante we had a pretty dull game known as Devil May Cry 2, considered the worst in the series (but I love that last boss battle).
Fans want the trash-talking “bring it on” type of Dante shown in 3,1, and 4, something not being shown in the DmC trailers. However, the first trailer continues to be the best trailer. Why, you may ask? Because it actually shows stuff that’s exactly why! You see, the trailers that followed afterward have only shown Dante fighting in new locales, and that’s pretty much it. The trailers are boring, and don’t show anything new. I’m pretty much relaxed and ready to embrace a new Devil May Cry, and I want to see some story, if they felt the need to leave us with many questions unanswered with 4 they better be ready to deliver something amazing with this new title! I can understand why the “action” trailers exist, Ninja Theory is not known for fantastic gameplay, they’re not, they’re known for their stories and characters. From this point, they’ve proven they’ve got some sort of fighting engine that seems to work, however with titles like ‘Bayonetta‘ that have pushed the ‘Devil May Cry’ formula to astounding new heights, it’s likely that Ninja Theory will not be in the same league. Which is exactly why they have to work their magic with this new silent Dante, and show us some actual story to wet our appetites on what we should expect from this reboot! This also needs to be addressed, a ‘Devil May Cry’ film is in the works, and according to the announcement, it will be based on this ‘DmC’, a new universe we pretty much know nothing about!
Also, this is slightly alarming, if this game releases around the same time, it can be seen as a “movie tie-in” to an extent. So? What does Ninja Theory have to do to win me over? Well, let’s see:-Combat System needs to be tight. It needs to be on par with prior “Devil May Cry”, personally, I want an updated version of 3 with changes to make it fresh. 4′s combat was good, but slow compared to 3.-Story needs to be amazing. The Devil May Cry games aren’t too well known for the stories, and NT could change that. After all, Capcom has cheated me from learning more about Nero and what exactly happened to Dante’s father Sparda.-Keep the Grading System. Being graded after missions is something I really enjoyed in past DMCs. I strived to get “S” ranks on all the missions and loved perfecting everything I did.Warning: The Following is ‘Devil May Cry’ Fanboy Wants:- Vergil. I want more Vergil. Dante’s brother was an amazing part of the original canon. If the new Dante is very young in this new title, it could allow us to see Vergil as well, and maybe what drew them apart from one another which leads to the next request.-Show us the assassination of Dante’s mother.
It would be a great way to start off the game. Mundus sends demons to slaughter the Sparda family, and it leads to Dante’s obsession with slaughtering demons and Vergil’s lust for power (without strength, you cannot protect anything).-Sparda. It would absolutely fantastic to finally learn what inspired this demon to betray the devil and take upon his armies to benefit the realm of man. This figure is shrouded in mystery in the original games, to the point where it seems Dante doesn’t know much either (or doesn’t care).-No Capcom BS. Lately, we’ve been getting second editions of Capcom’s titles everywhere. I want a finished product, if additional content is to be added, I want the option of DLC.DmC could very well in fact be a great title. All we need is some more proof from NT, notably, better trailers and hands-on sessions.About TamarindLAZLuis Zamora has written 7 post in this blog.70% of my existence is made up of video games.
